Food & Wine Best New Chefs

Food & Wine magazine has announced their picks for the top ten new chefs of 2006. The magazine uses buzz, critic insight, and culinary wisdom to search the country and compile an annual list of the nation’s best new chefs. None have been in charge of a kitchen for more than five years.

So is there a hot up-and-comer in a city near you? Check the list:

  • Jason Wilson of Crush in Seattle
  • David Chang of Momofuku in New York City
  • Stewart Woodman of Five in Minneapolis
  • Pino Maffeo of Restaurant L. in Boston
  • Christopher Lee of Striped Bass in Philadelphia
  • Jonathan Benno of Per Se in New York City
  • Cathal Armstrong of Restaurant Eve in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia
  • Mary Dumont of The Dunaway Restaurant in Porstmouth, New Hampshire

Such good news! I LOVE Momofuku. The first time I went there was for my birthday in January and I have been returning too often. Their braised pork belly is delicious! Last time I was there I spoke to one of the prep cooks about their 45 minute poached eggs that top almost every dish– Delicious.
