Seattle Times: Dressing your Dog

Cream cheese and hot dogs? Sounds odd, but apparently many Seattleites are addicted to the combination! A recent feature in the Seattle Times by reporter Karen Gaudette named favorite hot dog condiments by region. New Yorkers tend to favor mustard, red relish, and sauerkraut. While in Chicago, ketchup is considered sacrilegious. And Southerners prefer a dog topped with chili or coleslaw. But cream cheese?

It’s true. The day after the report ran Seattleites submitted their own favorite ways to top hot dogs to the newspaper. And cream cheese was king.

I know it sounds disgusting, but I love to put cream cheese on my hot dog bun…it’s like the most delicious mayonnaise ever!

1st up: Cream Cheese spread on both sides of the bun (a must). Then, ketchup on one side and mustard on the other side. Next up, dill or sweet relish. And over the top - shredded carrots. Yum.

My favorite hot dogs always include yellow mustard, sauerkraut and cream cheese!

Oh dear…here in the Midwest, we keep trying to find ways to make our dogs spicier and and more zesty, but in Seattle, they’re making them blander? Bleah!
