Summer for Foodies
New York Magazine’s Summer Issue (July 3-10) recently made its way into my mailbox, tattered and ripped. The cover, as a result, showed a headless model lounging on sand with a man’s leg in the background. Talk about a tease!
It was particularly upseting because a good portion of the front of book pages were ruined.

Nonetheless, I dug into it with my usual gusto and found an interesting feature on five things foodies could do this summer in the New York area.
For the complete list, check out this link. These are the ones that really caught my eye:
- Private Cooking Lessons by The Wooden Spoon - Chef Allison Fishman develops a menu with you and then teaches you to cook it in your own kitchen. I checked out some of her sample menus and have to say wow.
- New York Restaurant Week - This runs July 10 through 14 and July 17 through 21. It’s $24.07 (no, that’s not a typo) for a three course lunch or $35 for dinner. New York Magazine advises to book sooner than later, as reservations fill up fast.
And here are a few more that they didn’t mention:
- Taste of New York - July 22, 2006 from 12:30 p.m. until dusk. Farm ineries and farmers come together for this event in Sackets Harbor, NY that highlights the products that New York farmers have to offer. There is a small entrance fee and lots of samples. You’ll have the opportunity to purchase as well.
- Cooking classes at New School - New School is offering dozens of one day cooking classes this summer. Check them out here.
