Home brewed iced teas


Home brewed iced tea is a Summer essential in my world. It’s like farm fresh strawberries with just whipped cream or hot dogs on the barbie. As a child, my family’s iced tea always came from the Liptons canister, but when I first tasted fresh brewed tea I was a convert. I loved that you could control the sweetness and that if you chose to include lemon, it the wasn’t dehydrated sort-of lemon, but the real thing.

I remember the first time I had homemade iced tea. I was at a close friend’s house for dinner and her mother had sunbrewed tea - something I was completely unfamiliar with. One sip and I was hooked. I drove my mother nuts with questions about why we didn’t make it “the good way.”

In any case, Body + Soul magazine has some delicious sounding suggestions for homemade brews that use dried herbs to create a powerful flavor punch to cool and refresh. Unfortunately I cannot vouch for any of these recipes since I am without the necessary herbs, but they sure do sound good.
