Roald Dahl’s Cookery Books
One of my ‘claim to fame’ stories involves Roald Dahl, his cottage (it just happened to be a few minutes from my old school), the gypsy caravan in his garden and a pendulum driven ‘machine’ that hung from the ceiling and created patterns ala spirograph from a pen fixed to the wall.
His connection to me - apart from getting a first edition Charlie and the Chocolate Factory hardback signed - was that my father grew (and still does grow) orchids; a dalliance that Mr. Dahl also enjoyed.
What has this little trip down memory lane got to do with cookery? Little really apart from the fact that I didn’t realize that Roald Dahl also penned a couple of cookery books.
A recent Telegraph magazine printed a selection of recipes from Roald Dahl’s Cookbook (£16.99 Amazon.co.uk US$21.38 Amazon.com), including his favourite Poached Salmon, as well as Parsley Soup with morel mushrooms and creme fraiche. The recipe for Chocolate Tart is one I shall be trying this weekend, it looks decadently rich.
Sadly I can’t find a link to the article on the Telegraph’s website; an excuse to add to your cookery book collection if every I heard one!
