Real Simple: Dinner Solutions

You can always count on Real Simple magazine for great, honest taste tests and quick, simple solutions. Whether it’s cooking, cleaning, laundry or life, Real Simple is a master of the solution. The September 2006 issue is no exception.

A Month of Dinners caught my eye. I love variety. I particularly love variety that means I can have something different every day. That is exactly what this article is all about.

What Real Simple has done is taken six basic recipes and offered four additional variations on them. The simple variations help transform the six base recipes into other magnificent things.

For example:

The Basic Recipe
Roast Salmon and Vegetables

The Variations
Roast Salmon and Vegetable Tacos
Roast Salmon with Vegetables, Penne, and Dill
Roast Salmon and Vegetables with Barbecue Sauce
Roast Salmon and Vegetables with Green Olive Vinaigrette

Check out the article here for links to all the recipes.

Another great feature I noticed in the issue is The Best Frozen Pizzas. Generally, I just don’t do frozen foods at all. But in a pinch, sometimes we just have to. They are easy, quick and best of all: minimal mess. If I am going to make due with something frozen, it better be really good, so the top three frozen pizzas list from Real Simple is really handy.

Here they are:

  1. American Flatbread Tomato Sauce and Three Cheese
  2. Amy’s Cheese Pizza
  3. Chef Antonio Four Cheese & Tomato Sicilian Style Pizza

I’ve never heard of American Flatbread or Chef Antonio, so I did a little internet search. American Flatbread is a group of restaurants that also distributes their products frozen. They only have a few listed places to get their stuff, but say they are working on a more complete list. As for Chef Antonio, it is a product of Richelieu Foods, Inc. and it’s organic.
