Bidding farewell to summer

Summer ended in September, officially. But now with the air temperatures cooling and the return of morning frost, everything summer seems to be coming to an end. Swimming has long since ceased, backyard barbecues are being cooled and closed, and the leaves are turning all sorts of beautiful colors.

Well, as a final sign of the season’s change, summer eateries - ice cream stands, clam shacks, and other seasonal places - are drawing their shutters and hanging mournful signs proclaiming that they will be back next summer.

Funny, at this point, as sweatshirts replace the tees and skirts begin to require tights for warmth, it seems so far away…

Read the Hartford Courant’s story about these places closing for the season here in Connecticut.
