Snacking Sports

You have to read this opinion piece about children’s sports and snacking that the New York Times ran on Friday. Its response from readers can be found here.

I have to say, I completely agree with the opinion piece. I mean really! When did treats become a euphemism for something you have every practice, every game, every opportunity possible. How is that a treat?

And while the idea of trading unhealthy sweets for apples and water sounds ok at face value, but it perpetuates the problem of too much food. Why can’t kids go a few hours without a snack? Water, absolutely, but the snack is unnecessary. REALLY. Sports should be fun because they are sports, not because you’ll get a juice box and cookie to get through them. How unrealistic is that?
